Ski touring

Four summits for touring skis

The most popular ski tours around Berwang start in the village or a few kilometres away – from a short first outing to a ridge ascent.

  • Hönig2,034 m

    Start Berwang-Brand · approx. 700 m ascent

Berwang's own mountain: about 700 metres of ascent from the hamlet of Brand to a broad summit looking straight down on the village. Its steep, treeless grass slopes are known to be avalanche-prone in winter – a tour for experienced ski tourers only, and only when the avalanche situation is safe.

  • Galtjoch2,109 m

    Start Rinnen · approx. 1,000 m ascent · 2½–3 h

From Rinnen along forest roads and through the woods to the Ehenbichler Alm, then up open slopes to the summit. Considered beginner-friendly, with an all-round view over the Lech valley, the Allgäu and the Wetterstein range as far as the Zugspitze; the descent usually follows the ascent track.

  • Almkopf1,802 m

Start Berwang · approx. 450 m elevation gain

A short tour, popular right at the start of the season: past the Heiterwanger Hochalm and through open forest to the free summit slope. At the top, a view of the Zugspitze and down to Berwang; keep away from the steep flanks off the route.

  • Engelspitze2,291 m

    Start Namlos · approx. 1,000 m ascent · 2½ h

From Namlos up the west ridge to the summit, moderately demanding: the narrow summit ridge calls for confident kick turns. The route passes a wildlife feeding area, so go in daylight only. Descend the way you came or through the Kelmer Kar to Kelmen.
